SEO Evolution!
In a recent article we spoke about the future of SEO. We looked at videos and blogging as a means to stay in the game. We analysed how it would be a failure to update your site for the new SEO tactics. The truth is it gets even more interesting, and we felt a second article was needed to bring you into the SEO world more fully.
Blogging and videos are just the icing on the second layer of the cake. Search engines are beginning to change how they extrapolate data for you as the web designer. Searches are becoming more personalised. Users no longer have to get results that they do not want. Instead of seeing results with millions of potential links to what users are searching for, they will find the best top results for what their preferences are. Already we have seen some of this. News can be tailored to a location or a couple of locations. Images can be selected for how they might apply to the users likes. Bookmarking a page is not as necessary now, because the searches are more personal.
This can greatly affect how SEO works. With personalisation you have to understand what the target users you are trying to convert will have on their personalised searches.
While this might seem a little scary to be talking about, it is a good thing to consider. In fact you might just find that these personalisations will help you rather than hinder you. It forces you to ask the question what more can exist to help users? What could a user want to know that they cannot find on the internet right now? How can this be related to your site? Users of the future will be looking for everything online. The collapse of certain industries is almost a foregone conclusion because of the internet.
Consider the Post Office. They have increased stamps every year for the last five years because they are losing money with online email and other ways to send things. Letters and documents may be a thing of the past in the future. The post office may only exist to send large packages of products being bought online. While this is a bit extreme, the point remains.
As the internet world evolves so will SEO, and anyone not keeping up with the changes will be lost in the bottomless pit. Google may even feed information about your credit card back to your Google account in three years time. The only way to combat the changes is to know about them. Furthermore, consider personalisation tactics. What can you do to get the audience? It is simple really- use the keywords they will use in the content, videos, blogging, and all other needs. The meta description can be used to let consumers know there is a video.
Let the consumer know that they can personalise your site. For example Yahoo and Google allow you to choose weather, news, comics, stocks, etc. Consider giving this advantage to your consumers.
